Help With Basing...

Right so I have decided against doing the mud thing for Imperial Fists and instead want to do and urban/rubble/cities of death kinda thing.

On a quick search I found these which show what I'm kinda looking for.

I just wanted some advice or links or something to help me achieve this kind of look? I know the colours I need just not the materials etc.

So if anyone can help me out it would be much appreciated!

  1. looks like just some crushed up slate with putty for levels in it. At least that's what it looks like.

  2. Cork, take a cork board break it up and make it look like little pieces of rubble! Then add some filler material (sand or tiny rocks) and paint it. Add re bar and pieces of metal/debris and such.

  3. Those bases are built up with slate, and have sand added before being painted, but I have an article on my blog that may be helpful.

  4. On some of the bases it looks like they used guitar string / wire and for the rubble the obvious choice to use would be cork.I have seen some ceiling tile used as well to good effect. For the larger grit I just go outside and see what I can find.

  5. Check out Ron S. FTW Blog. He has plenty of examples of simple but effective bases that are easy to make.

In the examples that you posted above, it looks like they just used various pieces of gravel, metal bits, and some rocks. It shouldn't be too hard to replicate! But the only thing is that you have to design the base before gluing the model on it so it looks natural.

  6. For most of my 'earthy' ground types I tend to use Gale Force Nine's Urban Rubble kit. I haven't delved much further then that unfortunately.

  7. I had no idea that yellow could look so cool. Great job with these marines. And I don't really know what to do with the bases but these are excellent models. You've got yourself a follower.

  8. I agree with some of the above posters. It looks like small slate chips and a couple of pieces of guitar string.
