Happy Birthday To Me....

So it's my 22nd birthday today and I'm already feeling like an old man, I'm sure some of you will laugh at that.

I gave my family some idea of what to get me, underwear and 40k, they did an awesome job. First of all I received a Grey Knight Dreadknight from the girlfriend and was over the moon with that and she also got me some shelves for my workspace as it is getting a mess. We share money so I didn't expect a great deal because I spend enough myself.

Then when it came to my family I first got a couple of Necron bits. Being that all I told them was what armies I was playing they did really well. I got myself two Ghost Arks and a Necron Lord. Theyt also got me a couple of Space Marine bits, a Landspeeder and a Vindicator.

Lastly I got myself a few other Grey knight bits which should give me some interesting stuff to play with after giving the codex a look through. I got myself a Castellan Crowe and a squad of Terminators, I also got a bottle of Vallejo water effects which is related to the Grey Knights due to me getting the idea for that from the interceptors I won.

I've got myself a few projects then. I may be asking advice on how to equip some of the Grey Knight stuff. I already have the idea that I want to equip my Dreadknight with a Greatsword and Incinerator. I've nearly finished my Crimson Fists now and am just adding to that army now to get some variety hence why I'm hitting the Necrons and Grey Knights now.

Necron Warrior Test Model Part 2

Carrying on from yesterdays post

So this is my second attempt at a Warrior scheme let me know what you think. I have one more idea then if that doesn't work I'll try something else.

I have gone with a basalt grey base with a greyblue drybrush for highlight. I think it looks good and is easy enough for how many Warriors I want to paint.

The next scheme I will try is white/bone colour (notice how it is getting progressively brighter) staying the blue. That is unless you this works well? Looks better than the black definitely as someone said with the last model the black took away to much detail.

Let me know what you think and possibly what you think would fit well with the blue. I'm thinking that the higher in the hierarchy the Necron is I will include more blue as a scheme, what do you think?

At the moment I have three ideas:

1. Go all white/bone with the blue
2. Go with this scheme with progressively more blue added to the models through the hierarchy
3.Go with the black but make some adjustments such as more highlights or adding more blue to it

Any ideas you have please throw them my way.

Thanks

Necron Warrior Test Model

So this is a quick test model  I just knocked up as a little break from painting yellow vehicles. Went with a little different to what I thought I would do but just went with something I thought would work.

Let me know what you think of it, it was a really nice break from painting bright yellow. It needs tidying up but it was just a quick mock up to see what you think and what I think. I like it but also fairly critical as everyone is so I'm no judge haha. Maybe you like the scheme but maybe something needs to be added? Maybe change something? Aslong as it is within my ability I will give it a go.

Much appreciated.

Which Necron Colour Scheme Do You Think?

Hey people, haven't been around because been super busy recently with Xmas and New Years etc.

Hope you enjoyed both by the way.

Speaking of Xmas, I got myself a few 40k bits. I'll go into what I got for my Space Marines at a later time but for now I'd like to touch on Necrons.

Got myself a box of Warriors, Immortals and a Command Barge to paint up but before I do I would like some inspiration on what to paint them straying from the usual silver and green.

I have bought this up before where I was fairly certain that I would stick with the Thokt Dynasty with the black and blue scheme. I still like this but I thought that maybe you guys might have some good ideas. I read all of your blogs and I see the creativity and I would love your assistance.

Maybe you prefer the classic boltgun metal? Maybe instead of blue you like red? Maybe I could do blue and white as sort of a ice theme?

All comments will result in a poll to determine what I go for. If I don't get anything back I know to stick with the Thokt Dynasty.

Thanks,

New Bitspudlo Alternative Necron Products

Once again our friends over at bitspudlo.com have released and are going to release a couple of cool looking Necron alternatives for you who need/can't wait for the model.

First up are the scheduled for release soon Scarabs (I will update you with when if your interested)

If the pricing of there previous products are anything to go by expect these to be really reasonable and I'm fairly positive I shall be purchasing from them as soon as they release.

Then we move onto what is released which I'm really interested about, there alternative Triarch Stalker.

No Necron seated in the cockpit (for obvious reasons) but that is easily fixed and you can't argue this looks pretty menacing. This is really a case of if you can wait or you really need one and your scratchbuilding skills aren't upto par (much like myself). Personally I love it let me know what you think.

If your interested in this heres the link to it. Reasonable pricing once again I feel considering the fact it is made from resin.

Thank you Bitspudlo for releasing a great looking product once again.

Thanks for reading.

Which Necron Dynasty Colour Scheme?

Being that so many of you seem to have picked up the Codex I was just wondering how your going about painting your new army?

I know some of you will just have picked them up purely because they are fairly easy to paint with there classic boltgun metal, mithril silver and wash of devlan mud or similar to that. But seen as the new Codex offers us a bit more character to be given, that's not to say people didn't before as I have seen some great painted Necrons, I was wondering which Dynasty from the new Codex your going for? I myself am really undecided, yet have a few ideas, mainly something similar to the Thokt Dynasty but with a red/orange Gauss/Tesla/Blade colour which may result in creating my own Dynasty. Though I do like the sound of a couple of the Dynasties described in the book.

I just think that more than before have you had of a reason to stray from the standard colour scheme. This is one of the things that attracted me to them when I looked into them a few years back and saw some of the alternative colour schemes people have come up with that really made them look great.

I'm sure that alot of you will probably be going the standard way and I don't blame you, especially if paintings not your thing that's completely fair. I'm just wondering of those that are looking at creating or going with some of the alternatives as I'm really interested. If you are making up your own I'm even more interested to hear what your going with.

Anyone also that would like to assist me in picking a colour scheme please leave suggestions. I will say though I like the idea of a black/dark blue main colour or a bronze/copper main colour with any variant of colour to change up the guns/blades and also the colour of the shoulder pads, helmet strip, helmet etc for other units.

Please inspire me! =D

Thanks,

Possibly A Pointless Rant...

So amongst all the excitement about the new Necron Codex and people posting there lists and thoughts etc there has been a fair bit of complaining also dotting around. This has been directed at that the Codex is poor compared to Grey Knights and Space Wolves etc. I fail to see it personally, sure the Codex isn't as overpowered as the the two mentioned but why is that a problem? I think this is a very well balanced and well rounded codex with only a few units that I personally wouldn't use but not because they are bad but because I don't personally like them.

Personally I don't think there is a unit in the Codex that is 'bad'.

This is up for debate really, especially considering Flayed Ones and the bad rap they get.

There are things in there that can take out troops and there are things that can take out vehicles on a regular basis. I don't think the Codex has anything lacking whatsoever. I think what the main problem maybe is because Matthew Ward has written it you expected an overpowered Codex. I think in some units, I'm looking at you Scarabs and Spyders, you have it. But I don't think even they are overpowered to be honest I think most things in it are well costed.

If I would complain about anything in the Codex it would be the silly names that been given to things but that is what is to be expected from Matthew Ward to be honest. Another 'complaint' that could possibly be had is that the fluff has been completely rewritten from mindless killers to there hierarchy having some form of intelligence. The Warriors are still the same, they are still mindless, the Flayed Ones are the same, the Destroyers are the same etc. I don't see how you can complain about the hierarchy having more character giving the army more identity. But if that is what you liked about the old Codex that is fair enough and I can't dispute that.

I think this was a step in a great direction for Xenos races and that I see only good things coming from this release. This may also be a good Codex for 6th Edition being that I have not read alot of rumours on 6th, if at all, I cannot judge on that.

Maybe I'm just seeing trolls and people getting worked up just because Matt Ward has written it needed to be ridiculed which wouldn't surprise me even the slightest.

One more thing before I finish I also don't think that there is only one build, I think there is enough variety in this Codex for a fair few.

This may well have been a pointless rant and it's possible there isn't anyone with this mindset and I have just read trolling but please do tell me your views on the Codex in the comments as I am very interested.

Thanks,

I Have The Necron Codex....

And I really like it personally, to me it's not overpowered and not weak at all. I will review it properly once I get over the initial excitement of looking at the pretty pictures but I'll say some things I like about it from I have looked at so far.

Some things have been nerfed but in a way to reduce points costs, that is a good thing in my opinion. Thirteen point Warriors? Yes please.

The amount of special characters, even though I will more than likely not use them alot of the time and will more than likely opt for the cheaper Overlord option the choice is awesome. Also the amount of work they have in the backstory for them is awesome. This army has alot and I mean ALOT more character now which I think was needed.

The Night/Doom Scythes look like they shall be interesting and look forward to seeing the model for those. Furthermore the new look Wraiths look very interesting and I hope will be having a new model. On the subject of models I think it's a great idea of packaging the sets as two options like Deathmarks and Immortals etc and I really do like the new look of the models they have released.

The division in factions is also very cool, I had seen this in the White Dwarf but is further explained in this which in turn, as said previously, gives the army more character.

The weapons aren't what everyone was crying CHEESE over either, I think the weapons are good but I see alot of anti infantry and not a great deal of anti-tank but that maybe me just flicking through out of excitement. I would have liked for example hyperphase swords to be a bit more than power swords but maybe that's just me.

The C'tan Shard thing is interesting, they are fairly cheap points wise but not once you add upgrades and being that it's only one unit is going to get you far but I still may run one or two because I'd like to see how they do.

I think Quantum Shielding on the vehicles is pretty cool, increasing the armour values by 2 until a penetrating hit is caused.

One thing that ever since I saw the models I have been thinking, the big gun platforms. For example the Doomsday Ark, I just love the look of them and there stats definitely tempt me towards them.

This has been said many times I can imagine but one thing that disappoints me is the Flayed Ones, both there models and there stats personally. I don't think I shall be fitting them in any force soon.

I do like the Praetorians and the Lychguard and will more than likely use them, even at there Terminator costs. More than likely the Lychguard with Hypephase Swords and Dispersion Shields at a total cost of 225 for 5 models seems a little hefty though but I like them.

I am relatively new to Necrons so I don't know a great deal about there last Codex but I have had a quick look through and in my opinion they have done a good job in bringing them into 5th (and possibly into 6th? Remains to be seen).

This post is just me being like over excited and just blurting things out without actually reading much so take it as that please haha.

I shall try and pay more attention to it now I'm at home and have more time to focus on it I promise.

All I'll say is I am really happy I bought this Codex.

Thanks,

Warflake Out.

Sample Necron Armies 1000 and 1500

Pulled from Games Workshops What's New Today.

Making a 1,000 Necron army is very quick and easy. A couple of boxes of Necron Warriors make the core of the army, while the Immortals provide some heavier firepower. The Lychguard and the Overlord provide your army with some much-needed close combat crunch, while the Doomsday Ark is just plain terrifying. With this force you have weapons to deal with pretty much every situation.

At 1500 points you can field quite a terrifying number of Necrons. In this force I opted for more guns and less combat with the intention of pureeing my enemies with heavy firepower before they even got near me. The combination of Deathmarks, Immortals and Necron Warriors will make a real mess of enemy troops, while the Monoliths and the Annihilation Barges can deal with tanks and heavy infantry.

Thanks,

My New Necron Blog

So as the title states I have a 'new' Necron blog.

The reason I say 'new' is it had a previous owner in the way of Fritz.

He kindly gave it over to me as it had been stagnant for a year.

I'm really looking forward to getting some articles up as soon as I start up my Necrons.

Until then I invite you to check it out and maybe have a look through some of the great articles left behind by Fritz.

http://necrons-warhammer.blogspot.com/

As I want to keep this one going as well if anyone is interested in maybe becoming an author and posting about Necrons.

I'm open to anyone helping me out as like I say I want to try and keep both of these going fairly frequently.

So please let me know if you are interested.

You can email me at warflakesblog (at) gmail (dot) com or message me on Facebook or Twitter

Thanks!

Thoughts On The New Necrons

So the new necron units hit the internet yesterday and frankly people went absolutely crazy haha.

I can understand why and if you haven't seen them I have the pictures here

So my initial thoughts were 'Amazing! New Necrons! Yeah!' but then I tried to stay level headed and went through the pictures properly.

The First thing I noticed were the fact that none of them had the florescent green tubes, which in my plans to replace them with a different colour isn't to much of a bad thing for me.

I then noticed the obvious influence from Star Wars with there transport.

One thing I have noticed is people complaining about them being to much like Tomb Kings, to me this isn't a problem as I noticed the obvious throw back to them from before and didn't mind that then and don't mind it now. I was going to go further into the influence of Egyptians with the colour scheme with golds, bronze and blues and such.

Generally I would say the only thing I didn't care much for are the snipers.

I personally just don't understand the idea of this unit but I can get over that with the others.

I think they have made the units alot more interesting looking and alot less minimalist which you either love or hate but I personally like the new design.

I think what I'm really looking forward to now is the Codex to see how all this stuff ways up in stats.

Though I am tempted to pre-order with Total Wargamer (See top/turn ad-blocker off) having up to 22% off.

That is extremely tempting now that I know what they look like.

If you haven't already seen the units please go here check them out and let me know in the comments section if you like/hate them, what you like/hate about them and whether you will be purchasing them.

I think I'm fairly settled I'm getting them but I think like most people I want to see how there codex weighs up.

I think they have GW have once again come up with some amazing kits that are, as usual, unrivalled. This is why we continue to throw money at them haha.

Thanks.

Necrons In Two Weeks? Next Army?

So according to alot of the big sites/forums the Necrons shall be returning with an update in two weeks. I'm looking forward to it to be honest as they do interest me and for them to get an update may push me to get them. Plus my girlfriend keeps telling me to buy them for some reason. She says that should be my next army and as we share money I can't argue haha.

So are you guys looking forward to it?

I think one thing this may be is just a tie over White Dwarf release much like the Sisters. Mainly because if they are releasing 6th Edition next year they may just tie them over until then. But I hope they do a better job with the Necrons rather than make the codex worse as many Sisters players are claiming.

There is some really interesting rumours floating around one of the biggest ones being the introduction of a transport. This I think might be true due to how the game has turned into a 'parking lot' as many gamers have put it.

But I hope they don't ruin them as one of the reasons I like them as they are very different to the other armies and I hope they remain to be unique.

So if they do get a nice update expect to see some Necrons coming to you!
