Games Workshop Makes The News

Many of you may have already seen this but I thought I would share this.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-17274186

If you first of all watch the video it shows a very brief outlook of a game of Warhammer 40k from a fan. This doesn't really say much at all.

The article at first just gives and overview of all that GW is which all of you already know I should imagine so also not very interesting but nice to see all the same.

One thing I noticed that I really didn't appreciate it is of all the painted miniatures they managed to pick some really poorly painted ones. I know I'm not the best painter in the world and not claiming to be but every time I visit my local GW I see kids painting painting better than some of what is shown. Just bothered me by not really showing it at it's 'best' I guess.

Now we come to the end of the article that shows two fans of the game complaining about the cost of the hobby. This was going to be inevitable and was interested to read on about this. This I find interesting 'Several players say they feel exploited. "You need at least £200 just to set up a half-decent legal army for a game, and if you want a board and scenery to go to play with friends you're looking at least £200 on top of that," says Craig Lowdon, 25, of Crewe' I think it's more than that if you consider not playing more than say 1000 points unless you ebay it of course.

Then they asked Chief Executive Officer Mark Wells about his opinion on the accusations of 'price exploitation' this is what he said 'That would go against everything we stand for. It's just not in our nature' really? Interesting....

This is the end of the article which pretty much sums it up I think '"[There's] the satisfaction of looking at ranks of badly-daubed Skaven (man-sized anthropomorphic rats) and knowing they're yours and you made them in a real way," says Kieron Gillen.
"It's absolutely the part of the brain that made other generations make model trains."

Whats On Your Xmas List....

So with Xmas only a few days away I thought I'd ask what you were looking forward to getting?

Maybe it's an opportunity to start that Necron Army?

Maybe it's a chance to get some resin crack from Forge World?

Let me know what you've asked for and what your hoping for.

On another note what's your opinion on this years GW xmas release? The army sets looked pretty nice to be honest. The Space Marine boxset actually looked pretty good. And how about the Eavy Metal Brush Set and the Mega Paint Set?

For me it's a chance to get a start on my Necrons with only Warriors at this moment in time....

Also possibly add to my Space Marines....

We shall see....

I have a few pictures to take but the misses has taken the camera to her parents for Xmas unfortunately.

Thanks for reading.....

My New Necron Blog

So as the title states I have a 'new' Necron blog.

The reason I say 'new' is it had a previous owner in the way of Fritz.

He kindly gave it over to me as it had been stagnant for a year.

I'm really looking forward to getting some articles up as soon as I start up my Necrons.

Until then I invite you to check it out and maybe have a look through some of the great articles left behind by Fritz.

http://necrons-warhammer.blogspot.com/

As I want to keep this one going as well if anyone is interested in maybe becoming an author and posting about Necrons.

I'm open to anyone helping me out as like I say I want to try and keep both of these going fairly frequently.

So please let me know if you are interested.

You can email me at warflakesblog (at) gmail (dot) com or message me on Facebook or Twitter

Thoughts On The New Necrons

So the new necron units hit the internet yesterday and frankly people went absolutely crazy haha.

I can understand why and if you haven't seen them I have the pictures here

So my initial thoughts were 'Amazing! New Necrons! Yeah!' but then I tried to stay level headed and went through the pictures properly.

The First thing I noticed were the fact that none of them had the florescent green tubes, which in my plans to replace them with a different colour isn't to much of a bad thing for me.

I then noticed the obvious influence from Star Wars with there transport.

One thing I have noticed is people complaining about them being to much like Tomb Kings, to me this isn't a problem as I noticed the obvious throw back to them from before and didn't mind that then and don't mind it now. I was going to go further into the influence of Egyptians with the colour scheme with golds, bronze and blues and such.

Generally I would say the only thing I didn't care much for are the snipers.

I personally just don't understand the idea of this unit but I can get over that with the others.

I think they have made the units alot more interesting looking and alot less minimalist which you either love or hate but I personally like the new design.

I think what I'm really looking forward to now is the Codex to see how all this stuff ways up in stats.

Though I am tempted to pre-order with Total Wargamer (See top/turn ad-blocker off) having up to 22% off.

That is extremely tempting now that I know what they look like.

If you haven't already seen the units please go here check them out and let me know in the comments section if you like/hate them, what you like/hate about them and whether you will be purchasing them.

I think I'm fairly settled I'm getting them but I think like most people I want to see how there codex weighs up.

I think they have GW have once again come up with some amazing kits that are, as usual, unrivalled. This is why we continue to throw money at them haha.

Thanks.

New Necron Releases Leaked...

Wow some interesting photos coming out from the Necron rumours courtesy of Beasts of War.

This being the Command Barge

Possible Jump Infantry?

Let me know what you think of them.

I personally think they have a fitting design and look forward to seeing them.

One thing I did notice is the lack of clear plastic....Interesting.

Necrons In Two Weeks? Next Army?

So according to alot of the big sites/forums the Necrons shall be returning with an update in two weeks. I'm looking forward to it to be honest as they do interest me and for them to get an update may push me to get them. Plus my girlfriend keeps telling me to buy them for some reason. She says that should be my next army and as we share money I can't argue haha.

So are you guys looking forward to it?

I think one thing this may be is just a tie over White Dwarf release much like the Sisters. Mainly because if they are releasing 6th Edition next year they may just tie them over until then. But I hope they do a better job with the Necrons rather than make the codex worse as many Sisters players are claiming.

There is some really interesting rumours floating around one of the biggest ones being the introduction of a transport. This I think might be true due to how the game has turned into a 'parking lot' as many gamers have put it.

But I hope they don't ruin them as one of the reasons I like them as they are very different to the other armies and I hope they remain to be unique.

So if they do get a nice update expect to see some Necrons coming to you!

Is Lysander Over Costed?

So I was flicking through the codex once again and this subject, maybe not with the same character but this subject, has probably been bought up but none the less I wish to hear your opinions.

For this I will use a character that is used fairly often in the Marine codex Vulkan He'Stan .

This guy is just ridiculous in my opinion and I wish Lysander made as much sense to the army as this guy does.

I'm by no means complaining about him as I think he's a good character that makes sense to his army.

The problem I have is that in comparison Lysander makes little sense.

You pretty much all know what Vulkan does but for the purpose of this I shall list what he brings, by himself he has a 2+ save and a 3+ Invuln save, a gauntlet mounted heavy flamer and a master crafted relic blade. Pretty impressive. Then there is more he also makes all Thunder Hammers Master Crafted and makes all flamers, heavy flamers, meltas and multi meltas twin linked. I think this makes him a no brainer really for alot of  Marine players and I do understand that. He comes in at a 190 points which I think is pretty fair maybe a little cheap.

Now we get to Lysander, he is a rather odd ball character I feel. I think this is partly due to him still having bolter drill which he had as a Sergeant upgrade back in 3rd Edition (I still have the codex).  He comes in with a 2+ save and a 3+ Invuln, a master crafted Thunder Hammer with hits being resolved at strength 10 and add +1 to vehicle damage charts, he is also Eternal Warrior.  Which in my mind means use him to get up close and beat face, not as easy of a choice as that, his special rules are bolster defenses ( makes sense, it's fluffy ), Stubborn which makes sense and Bolter Drill this is where it doesn't make much sense. I think they need to re-think a little on this and try to figure out a more fitting replacement for Bolter Drill or drop his cost and remove it.

He's 200 points which is in my opinion a little ridiculous for what little he does. The problem I think is that it makes sense to put him with a Sternguard Squad for the re-rolls but then he's super beat stick is wasted so your other option is Assault Termintors but it doesn't seem like he is needed really as they have enough power behind them and your paying the equivalent of another squad for him. The other option I think is with shooty Terminators for the re-rolls with a gating Librarian which seems pretty cool but still expensive.

I'd really like to here your opinion. With 6th Edition apparently coming next year this is the one thing I hope they change haha. I don't care about anything except for them to give me a character that makes more sense or is cheaper.

EDIT: Once again something from the comments has prompted me to add to this post. I have also been reminded that a regular captain outfitted in Terminator Armour with a Thunder Hammer and Storm Shield is only 30 points cheaper than Lysander. That is just ridiculous. I think that makes me eat my words a little in saying he maybe over costed when in comparison that is just silly.

Thanks.

Should GW stock Forge World?

So I've seen a few videos and a couple of people bringing it up since Games Day about how the lines were ridiculous purely because people wanted Forge World. I look at the line and even joined it a couple of times to later think better of it and decided to leave it. Which I think a few people did.

So this does beg the question of whether they should stock Forge World so that it is more easily accessible for people to pick up.

I just watched a video where the guy had sent a letter to Mark Wells asking whether this was possible and he got a response of no because they had apparently already tried that a few years back and they didn't sell the stock.

I think that this is most probably true but I also think that if they tried it again it would be popular. I think that since they tried it last time FW has grown alot and people really want there stuff. I think this is mainly due to people wanting Pre Heresy themed armies due to Black Librarys Horus Heresy books, which they do stock.

I'm interested in what you think about this as I know that if it was in front of me I'm more likely to buy it.

It would eliminate shipping charges which I'm sure people like alot.

Another thing I think would be good is if independent retailers could stock them which I'm sure that a big percentage of them would if they were given the chance to.

Let me know your thoughts and if by any chance you are a retailer if you would be interested in stocking Forge World if you could.

I would also like to say I commend Mark Wells for responding to the guys letter.

EDIT
One thing that was bought up was the packaging. Being that the presentation right now is just a bag how could they get around that without boosting the price more?

Also bought up is if they could use there ordering service in store to order FW bits to be sent to the store as they do with there own products if it's not in stock.

This way no extra packaging needed and people wouldn't have to pay shipping also.

Thanks.

Cheap Dreadnought Autocannon Alternative

So I wanted four twin linked Autocannon arms for my Dreadnoughts but really didn't want to pay out like £30 for 4 arms from Forge World. So while I was looking around for people's conversions I found this thread on Dakka Dakka

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/341067.page

Which showcased some cool bits but it wasn't until I saw this...

I knew I wanted them!

If you have a look through that thread I posted there is a couple of examples of people that have used these for there Dreadnoughts straight off the sprue.

And the best part is the price.

I paid £16 after shipping for 2 of these which equals four Dreadnought arms =D

I think there other stuff looks cool but I want to wait till I get these before buying anything else from them.

Here is a link to there site for you to check there stuff out.

Looking for a side project...

So I've painting my Marines for awhile now. Admittedly after a short break I've come back to them to re-paint everything and have a couple of new additions to paint but that shall come later. This being my main project and one that I will continue with I also want something new to do on the side also to break up painting Marines.

So I get to what I'm thinking about doing.

I have a few options really but I need help in deciding which to go with.

I would like to do another 40k army but it can't be another Marine army or Imperial based so that leaves me with Eldar/Dark Eldar, Orks, Tau, 'Nids, Daemons, Necrons.

Out of those the ones that interest me are:

Dark Eldar

Orks

'Nids

Necrons

And Daemons

All purely because I like the models and in most of them the story behind them. I have no interest in how competitive they are just purely for the love of the models.

Then I get to my other thought of doing a Fantasy army instead being that Fantasy really interests me and some of the armies have awesome models.

My choices for those would be:

Skaven

Orcs and Goblins

Tomb Kings

Or Vampire Counts

Then there is the thought of doing something completely un-related like Warmachine/Hordes, Malifaux, Infinity     or do miniatures from various companies.

My other question for you would be if you would be alright with me posting miniatures un-related to 40k on here? If I do start to include un-related miniatures I will change the title and such to suit the fact I am not doing exclusively 40k which I'm OK with.

Let me know your thoughts guys!

Thanks!

I'm back! GamesDay was awesome....

Well I'm finally back from my travels and am awaiting the photos to be sent to me hopefully soon of GamesDay UK.

It was extremely tiring and next year I shall be a little better prepared for it I think especially for the lines as in the end didn't actually buy anything from the sales part just to beat the traffic which really really sucks.

So next year I shall get in the line quicker or reserve items.

I also found out how hard it is just to get pictures there and I didn't have my camera so my Dad being there took some photos for me but that was a nightmare for him with all the people pushing and shoving.

So that shall be another thing I shall be better prepared for.

I will say that I have a new found drive to get my army painted with all the awesome Golden Demon entries which absolutely blew me away. I also have have an interest in building them a display board after seeing the armies on parade section.

So as soon as I receive those photos I shall post them up.

It's good to be back!

The Evolution Of An Army List

I'd like to start by saying I've been pretty sick recently so I haven't done much in the way of anything constructive past week or so which explains my lack of posts. Though I'm pleased to announce I am fit as a fiddle once more and got back to painting today after tying up what it was I intended to build for my list.

So expect more pictures of my work soon as I'll make the effort to crack some stuff out before I go away to Games Day and Warhammer World possibly. Both of which I shall be taking alot of pictures of for you to enjoy.

To the subject of this post.

Before I felt ill I built a fair few army lists and had alot of help from people in the community for which I am grateful. I then proceeded to tweak these lists till I was happy. Then I bought them up on forums and further tweaking ensued.

Then I bought it up again and more tweaking.

Now I'm finally done haha. Apart from very minor things I shall maybe change I have the core of my 1500 point list that I was aiming for.

What I found interesting is how involved I got in just building the list. It fascinated me how frustrated I got with myself over something minor like a wrong points cost haha. I think I may have taken it a little to seriously.

In the end I came out with something that isn't super competitive and does hold true to the Imperial Fist way while being at least slightly competitive as would happen when you visit forums haha.

I got it down to two lists in the end the first one being my main choice and the second being another idea.

Both of which I'm fairly happy with

List 1

Libby - 140 Terminator Armour Storm Shield

7 Sternguard - 235
2 Combi Melta
2 Combi Flamers
Drop Pod

Rifleman Dreadnought - 125
Rifleman Dreadnought - 125

Tactical Squad – 230
Power Fist
Flamer
Missile Launcher
Rhino

Tactical Squad – 240
Power Fist
Meltagun
Lascannon
Rhino

Combat Squad - 165
Razorback Las/Plas or Las or Assault Cannon

Vindi - 120 w/dozer blade

Vindi - 120 w/dozer blade

List 2

Librarian Cestus - 100 points
Space Marine Librarian with Null Zone and The Avenger.

ELITE
Ancient Torian - 125 points
Dreadnought with two twin-linked autocannons.

Ancient Rokan - 125 points
Dreadnought with two twin-linked autcannons

5 man Sternguard Power Fist 3 x Combi-Melta 2 x Combi Flamer in a Razorback w/Heavy Bolter - 215

TROOPS
Squad Vendetta - 240 points
10 Space Marines with Flamer, Missile Launcher, Sergeant with Power Fist Combi-Flamer , mounted in Rhino

Squad Vengeance - 245 points
10 Space Marines with Melta, Missile Launcher, Sergeant with Power Fist Combi-Melta, mounted in Rhino

FAST ATTACK
Deathwind Squadron - 210 points
3 Land Speeders with multi-melta and heavy flamer.

Deployed Seperately

HEAVY SUPPORT
Annihalatum - 120 points
Vindicator with dozer blade.

Crucible - 120 points
Vindicator with dozer blade.

*EDIT*

List 3

Libby - 100

5 Sternguard - 185
2 Combi Melta
2 Combi Flamers
Rhino

Rifleman Dreadnought - 125
Rifleman Dreadnought - 125

Tactical Squad – 230
Power Fist
Flamer
Missile Launcher
Rhino

Tactical Squad – 235
Power Fist
Meltagun
Multi Melta
Rhino

Combat Squad - 165
Razorback Las/Plas or Las or Assault Cannon

Vindi - 120 w/dozer

Vindi - 120 w/dozer

Thunderfire Cannon - 100

As said I like both but I think the first one tipped the balance for me purely because I can easily make that out of most of what I have on me already. The one thing I may change in List 1 is drop the dozer blades from the Vindis to give a second las to the tacticals and for List 2 I'd swap the Razorback with one of the Tactical Squads.

I guess what always limits me is my lack of funds and not wanting to sell everything I already have and starting over haha.

I'm just interested what you go through when you make a list? This question is to the newbies and the veterans as I'd like to know how you go about it.

Thanks!

Just One Drop Pod???

So I thought about my list and what I could do to make it have some more Imperial Fist elements to it. I figured I really do need to take Lysander. He is a fun character regardless of points and such. So then I thought what to put him with? Well as I was going to build them anyway Sternguard seemed a good option. Now how are they getting around? Well this is the interesting thing. I thought that maybe a Drop Pod of 9 Sternguard and Lysander gives the squad survivability because Lysanders in it, gives them assault capabilities because Lysanders in it, makes there bolters that little more scary because....I'll stop there.

The only thing is when I was building the rest of it I thought that considering what models I have currently I could build a list with just one that may be effective.

So I gave it a go.

Lysander - 200

9 Sternguard w/ 2 x Combi Melta 2 x Combi Flamer w/Drop Pod - 285

10 man Tactical Squad w/power fist, melta and missile launcher Rhino - 235

10 man Tactical Squad w/power fist, flamer and missile launcher Rhino - 230

10 Scouts - missile launcher,  sniper rifles, 150

2 x 1 Land Speeder - multi-melta, heavy flamer 150

Vindicator x2 w/siege shields- 250

To me sounds like a fun list that suits what I feel is an Imperial Fist army roster.

Vindicators can put holes in the enemy but you can't just take one you have to take two.

The one thing I could change is reducing the Scout Squad and sticking camo cloaks on them and getting another regular speeder to fill out there squad a little.

I also have not and refuse to put this past forums as it always usually comes back to 'well that's not competitive' -_-

But that's a completely different matter!

Please give me your feedback as always.

Edit: I also found an Imperial Fist sample GW list that I played around with and came up with this.

HQ
Librarian Cestus - 100 points
Space Marine Librarian with The Gate of Infinity and The Avenger.

ELITE
Ancient Torian - 125 points
Dreadnought with two twin-linked autocannons.

Ancient Rokan - 125 points
Dreadnought with two twin-linked autcannons

TROOPS
Combat Squad Vendetta - 270 points
10 Space Marines with Flamer, Missile Launcher, Sergeant with Power Fist, mounted in Razorback with twin-linked lascannons.

Combat Squad Vengeance - 275 points
10 Space Marines with Melta, Missile Launcher, Sergeant with Power Fist, mounted in Razorback with twin-linked lascannons.

Combat Squad Viagra - 155
5 Space Marines Sergeant with Power Fist mounted in a Razorback with twin linked heavy bolters

FAST ATTACK
Deathwind Squadron - 210 points
3 Land Speeders with multi-melta and heavy flamer.

HEAVY SUPPORT
Annihalatum - 120 points
Vindicator with dozer blade.

Crucible - 120 points
Vindicator with dozer blade.

10 points if you see one rather entertaining change I made.

Thanks!

Librarian, Chaplain Or Lysander...

Right well after having asking alot around the web about my list building I have come up with a fair few along the way.

The main decisions are mainly based around the three characters I mentioned.

Also another big factor is whether I should take the Land Raider but we shall get to that.

So here is a bunch of 1500 point lists for you to give advice over.

First up a Chaplain list.

HQ
Terminator Chaplain - 130

Elites
Assault Terminaters - w/ Land Raider w/multi melta- 460

Dreadnought w/Twin linked autocannon - 125

Troops
10 man Tactical Squad w/power fist, melta and missile launcher
Combat squad for Las Razorback - 275

10 man Tactical Squad w/power fist, flamer and missile launcher
Combat squad for Las Razorback - 270

Heavy Support
2 x pred w/autocannon las- 240

Next we have a Librarian list

HQ

Terminator Librarian with Storm Shield - 140 GOI and Null Zone

Elites
Assault Terminaters - w/ Land Raider - 450

Dreadnought w/2 x Twin linked Autocannons - 125

Troops
10 man Tactical Squad w/power fist, melta and missile launcher
Combat squad for Las Razorback - 275

10 man Tactical Squad w/power fist, flamer and missile launcher
Combat squad for Las Razorback - 270

Heavy Support
2 x Predator w/autocannon las- 240

And finally the Lysander list

HQ
Lysander-200

Elites
Assault Terminaters - w/ Land Raider - 450

Dreadnought w/Twin linked Las - 135

Troops
Tactical Squad w/Power Fist, Melta, Multi Melta w/ Rhino - 235

Tactical Squad w/Power Fist, Flamer, Missile Launcher w/ Rhino - 230

2 x Predator w/autocannon las- 240

Now the thing I find about these lists is that you have this massive target, the Land Raider at such a small point game. I've played a hand full of games and the one game I saw someone use a Land Raider it got shot at alot.
This could be a good thing or a bad thing. Depending on what they are packing of course. But with all the anti tank out there I cant see it working. Unless you think differently?

I do however like the Librarian and the Chaplain lists for different reasons. With the Chaplain list I get a Land Raider with some re-rolling thunder hammers and a multi melta on top of that. With the Librarian list I get GOI in case my transport goes bye bye and I get psychic defence.

Priority Target?

Then we get to the Lysander list. It lacks alot of firepower. Nice idea but I don't think it'd work.

I also have the question of which flavour Land Raider to take? If I take the standard one I get a couple extra Lascannon shots, if I take the Redeemer I get some good anti-infantry and if I take the Crusader I can squeeze in a Lascannon for one of the Combat Squaded Tactical Squads.

I have also built lists which don't include the Land Raiders and instead capitalise on more bodies and firepower. But if you think one of these are viable I'd be happy to build them. I did want to use Vindicators but I think they must just get shot up quicker than the Land Raider and figure Predator's fit Imperial Fists fluff just aswell.

If you don't like the lists I'll just go with the other ones and decide from there and not bother you with this anymore haha.

This is the list that would be my alternative

Pedro - 175

5 man Sternguard 2 x combi melta 2 x combi flamer 1x power fist- w/rhino - 180

Dread w/twin linked las - 135

Dread w/2 x tl autocannon - 125

10 man Tactical Squad w/power fist, flamer and missile launcher Razorback - 270

10 man Tactical Squad w/power fist, melta and missile launcher squad Razorback - 275

Scout Squad w/missile launcher w/camo cloaks - 100

2 x pred - 240

I was thinking that maybe I could replace the scouts for two cheap melta attack bikes especially considering with pedro making the sternguard scoring.

(I doubt I'll get any replies with the new Space Marine game out haha)

Thanks!

Help With Basing...Part 2

Right well I got a massive response on this.

And now I'm in the position where I don't know which method to choose haha.

So I'll break it down to a couple of choices.

We have the Gale Force 9, which personally I like because it's fairly cheap and would give a pretty cool effect with the Urban Rubble kit and maybe some drybrushed sand.

Next we have using cork, now this is interesting to me but I'm not sure where I can this cheap in the UK? I did a quick search online and it may be cheaper to go the Gale Force 9 route. But considering how much you get it may not.

If someone could point me in the direction on a good tutorial using cork for basing I would really appreciate it.

Then there is the idea of using broken slate with putty raising it, I like this but I'm not sure I trust my putty skills to make it look natural enough.

I would also more than likely add bits from my bits box in places as well.

Just wanted to ask which you thinks the best method?  Judging on how good it looks and how easy it is to achieve. They would all cost relatively the same price so that doesn't matter.

So if you could answer me that I would appreciate it!

Help With Basing...

Right so I have decided against doing the mud thing for Imperial Fists and instead want to do and urban/rubble/cities of death kinda thing.

On a quick search I found these which show what I'm kinda looking for.

I just wanted some advice or links or something to help me achieve this kind of look? I know the colours I need just not the materials etc.

So if anyone can help me out it would be much appreciated!

Thanks For The List Help....

I just wanted to say a massive tanks to Fourth Company Librarium who helped me out by posting a couple of 1500 point lists for me.

It was a great help and I really appreciate it. I took his second list that he gave me and messed around with it a little.

This was the original list

Lysander- 200

5 Assault Terminators w/ thunder hammers and storm shields- 200

Land Raider Redeemer w/ multi-melta- 250

Tactical squad w/ meltagun, lascannon, combi-melta, power fist, and Razorback w/ twin-linked lascannons- 295

Predators w/ autocannon turrets and lascannon sponsons- 120

Predators w/ autocannon turrets and lascannon sponsons- 120

Vindicator- 115

I really do like this list as it does capture the weapon heavy feel of the Imperial Fists.

The only thing that worried me was the lack of troops, which he himself said may be a problem, so I messed around a little and came up with this.

HQ

Lysander- 200

Elites

5 Assault Terminators w/ thunder hammers and storm shields- 200

Dreadnought w/ twin linked las - 135

Troops

Tactical squad w/ power fist, combi-melta, melta, multi-melta w/ Rhino - 235

Tactical squad w/ power fist, melta and missile launcher w/ Rhino 235

Heavy Support

Land Raider Crusader - 250

Predator w/autocannon and las sponson - 120

Vindicator - 115

I'd be interested in what he thinks of this as well as you guys. The reason I changed the Land Raider is I wanted more infantry killyness and why I changed the troops I'd like to have at least 2 full squads for scoring.

General tactic is the same as Fourth Company Librarium put it, hang back as there is lots of firepower and wait for the enemy to come to me, once they advance counter-punch with the Terminators and Vindicator. This part is straight from the post, against very shooty armies use all your shooting to cover the advance of the Land Raider. The Terminators should tear through most shooty armies.

This sounds like a very fun list to me.

I'd really like to hear your input.

Thanks!

List Advice Please...

So I've done a few posts on lists and I don't really want to do another one so I just thought I ask if anyone would be willing to just give me a little list advice?

This is mainly due to I need to know what I need to get/make obviously haha.

So if anyone wouldn't mind giving me some list advice please just post a comment and let me know.

I've built a fair few but I'm fairly with what I've come up with now, but I just want some advice on whether it will work.

Right so if you can help me please leave a comment and let me know or email me at warflake (at) gmail (dot) com or contact me via facebook at here or here please.

Or if you want me to just go ahead and post my lists let me know and I shall.

Thanks people!

Discussion:Chaplain Or Librarian?

So I was looking through the codex, which I haven't stopped doing since I've had it, and was debating over whether or not I think the Librarian is the thing for me.

Granted I absolutely love the model.

This one to be precise.

I mean the sculpt is just fantastic and really fits everything that I can imagine a Librarian to look like.

But then I was thinking of the role in which I was setting him.

Being a leader for my Assault Terminators to GOI round the board.

Which sounds like a fair plan, if indeed it works.

Null zone with all the psychers running in the game seems like a no brainer really.

But running him with just Terminator Armour isn't really ideal so I have him with a Storm Shield to give him survivability, which for 140 points isn't bad really.

Then I got to the chaplain, which had not been suggested to me in the past and I rarely see hardly at all, and thought I'd give him a fair once over.

So then I realised that he is quiet the utility belt. He has a bunch of options at his disposal at just 100 points, boltgun or bolt pistol and Crozius, Rosarius which grants him a nice 4+ armour save against physical and spiritual harm, Frag and Krak grenades and 2 wounds.

Also he has a neat ability to grant any unit he is with re-roll failed hits, which stuck with an Assault Terminator Squad like I was going to do with my Librarian is pretty priceless.

Then lets look at what kind of wargear I'd more than likely run him with. I would probably opt for Terminator Armour for him which then leaves me with a decision to either give him a storm bolter or combi-weapon.

This is another sculpt I rate very highly

It adds to him the ability to shoot before assaulting which I lacked with running the Librarian. I would more than likely just opt for the Storm Bolter which then runs me to 130 points for him. Which I think is pretty good considering what he brings to the table.

I do however reduce my manoeuvrability of the unit and, given my current army builds, have no room to give them a Land Raider to ride around in.

But what I do have is space in Drop Pods and Locator Beacons for the Terminators.

So what I was thinking for both HQ choices is Drop Pod them down to safety with one of Tactical Squads and then use of the Locator Beacons I purchased on said Drop Pod to then Deep Strike the Terminators within 6 inches.

This is where the Librarian would come in handy mostly.

As I have no transport for these Terminators the Librarian would come in handy to GOI me to where I need to be.

Although foot slogging the Terminators, being that they have 2+ armour saves and 3++ inv saves, with the Chaplain maybe a viable option?

It's just something I was thinking about and was wondering what you guys take on the subject is.

I just find it interesting that little to no one who runs Vanilla Marines runs a Chaplain judging by what I read via the interwebs.

Especially not running him the way I am proposing.

Most of the time if they run him, he is in a Land Raider. Land Raiders are my next topic but we shall get to that later.

Thanks guys, help a n00b out haha.

*EDIT* Due to a massive response indicating in both accounts that a Land Raider is needed I would like to put my thoughts on the Land Raider and why I am a little worried about taking one.

The main factor being is that I am worried that due them being in a Land Raider they are essentially a massive moving target which obviously worries me due to the fact I need it for mobility and losing it straight away would really suck.

One thing I did think though is maybe if I reserved the Land Raider? Is that a viable tactic?

Another thing that has got me thinking is the possibility of Tactical Terminators instead of a hammer unit. I can see the attraction to them but I would lose that inv. save which seems fairly vital.

I will be posting my lists again to see where I can fit in a Land Raider maybe and hopefully you can give me some feedback.

I'd also like to ask you guys if you could just quickly review my lists as having little trouble with making them make sense.

Let me know guys.
